Encaustic Birch Forest...

This Encaustic Birch Forest is 18x36. I thought it may be interesting to post this piece, "in process". When it is finished I will post the during and after! The trunks are painted layer by layer to create the rough texture of birch bark then I carve and score the trunks for more realistic texture. When the piece is finished I will use pigments to darken the carved grooves and folds of the Birch trunks. This is an arduous process with the finished piece resembling the realistic and interesting look of Birch bark.

This is a busy ART Exhibit season. I will be hanging a show at The Scarlet Begonia Restaurant in Brunswick on June 7th. I also am getting ready to "hang" the Summertime Whimsey Exhibit at The Chocolate Church. This will be one really fun and delightful collection of work created by Maine Artists. Be on the lookout for the new kdb ART Walk postcard. It is updated and at the printers!
